Here's how I ended up doing my channeled version. I fabbed a 16 gage zee that was welded to the cowl support structure, A pillar, B pillar and even the wheel well. Then I welded in the door opening portion of original subrails I got from HAMB'er Mike Paul. The vertical piece behind the rear quarter window is also held in by a screw that is covered by the body sheet metal, so that would probably be a real chore to get out. Vertical pieces in the B pillar may be the same. Has anybody replaced the side cowl sheet metal panels on 1929 cowling? My coupe has a line of rust about 2"above the bottom of the cowl sheet metal. Yes, this is not uncommon. You can replace the whole panel or just the bottom. My preference is to just replace what is rusted out.
